Jeu de boules is a sport or game played with boules (balls) and a jack (small ball). The aim is to throw the boules as close to the jack as possible. It is also called petanque, because of its French origin. The game originated from a strength training of the Greeks and a skill game of the Romans. Different types of teams and jobs are possible.
There are different types of teams and jobs possible at jeu de boules. Below are the rules of the popular petanque game:
The game is played between two sides, the teams can consist of 1, 2 or 3 people. Depending on the number of players, this is called a singles, doubles or triples.
Depending on the number of players allowed, one gets 'boules'. When playing in teams of three, you may play two boules.
The aim is to throw the boules as close to the jack as possible.
The team closest to the jack gets points. The number of points depends on the number of boules that are closer to the jack than the other team's boules.
The first team to reach 13 points wins the game. Jeu de boules is fun to play with young and old. Jeu des boules is an entertaining game.
