You do have to maintain a tip. For this we have various shed and mud maintenance resources for the billiard cue.

Tip Shaper: To press tip shape back into shape. Place the tip shaper over tip and tip. By applying light pressure, the tip comes back into shape.

Slicker: To get shaft smooth. By moving the slicker back and forth over the shaft, dirt and grease are removed. this makes the top end nice and smooth again.

Sharpener: To get the tip right again compared to the cap. Hold the sharpener (blade) parallel to shaft end. By turning the blade cuts off the excess leather.

Pomerans sanding cap: To obtain the correct curvature of the tip and to make it rough again. Move the sanding cap over the tip. The tip is getting rough again. The tip is getting the right curve again. Round side for more effect. Flat side for more interface.
